Everything you need to know to register your opposition to this development.
The Government of Alberta is currently seeking public feedback on possible land designation changes tied to the proposed gondola in Canmore. If approved, these changes would allow a portion of Crown land to be considered as an All-Season Resorts Area under the All-Season Resorts Act.
This proposal is significant because it would require changes to the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan and an adjustment to the boundary of the Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park. While this process does not approve the gondola itself, it would decide whether the project can move forward into a formal application and review stage.
Albertans have until May 14, 2026 to share their views through the provincial questionnaire or by submitting written feedback. This engagement is focused on whether the land-use change should happen at all, and if so, under what conditions.
This website is here to help you understand what is being proposed, why it matters, and how you can take action.
The QR codes below will take you to letter/email templates that you can customize to send to the Alberta Government.
Register your opposition to this development by Thursday, May 14th.

Overall Content:
There are 11 pre-written emails/letters and 1 blank email/letter template you can personalize. If you choose one of the prewritten emails/letters, please read your letter before you sign and send it. If you wish to make any changes, you are welcome to do so. Bear in mind that your writing style may not necessarily mesh with that of the original letter-writer so just use your best judgement.
If you would prefer to send an email than a letter, you may need to selectively copy the information you would like to use from your letter of choice and paste it into your email app. BE SURE TO EXCLUDE THE FIELDS IN SQUARE BRACKETS, e.g. [DATE], [NAME], [MAILING] etc.
Regardless of which of the 11 prewritten emails/letters you choose, each begins with at least two of our Top 3 Points of Opposition. If you want to compose your own email or letter, please be sure to include all 3 of them.
Clearly state that you are…
Firmly against any proposed movement of any park &/or protected area boundary anywhere in AB
Strongly against any proposed redesignation of any of AB’s parks &/or protected areas/lands to “All-Season Resort Area(s)” anywhere in AB
Steadfast in your belief that your opposition is not limited only to Canmore’s Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park. It is provincewide.*
*Therefore, in addition to making your own voice heard to the decision-makers, we invite you to ask as many other people as you can ‒ even if they do not necessarily live in Alberta ‒ to also voice their support of the Top 3 Points of Opposition, above.
Although all the prewritten emails/letters are important, the Top 3 that most closely reflect our Top 3 Points of Opposition are emails/letters #1, 2 & 3.
#1 Answers to Government's Questions
#2 Precedent-Setting Risk to all Alberta Parks
#3 Proposed Boundary & Land Use Changes in Bow Valley Wildland PP, Castle Mtn. & K-Country Areas
The campaign team strongly encourages you to send #1, 2 or 3 but, of course, your choice from the 11 emails/letters and 1 blank template you can personalize is entirely up to you. The most important thing is that your voice of opposition be heard.
Include your full Name, Mailing or Street Address, Email & Telephone:
This helps show your legitimacy as a stakeholder and your authenticity as a real live human! Without this information, your opinions may not be registered by the government and your voice may not be heard.
Carbon Copying:
Each email/letter is addressed to the Hon. Andrew Boitchenko, Minister of Tourism & Sport, who is responsible for Alberta’s parks and protected areas. However, please be sure to also cc. the Hon. Todd Loewen, Minister of Forestry & Parks; Premier Danielle Smith; and Banff-Kananaskis MLA, Sarah Elmeligi. Again, this helps to multiply the strength of your message.

Letter Styles, Fonts & Appearance:
To reduce the chances of the government rejecting your invaluable feedback because they believe it’s just botmail, NO GOndola! campaign creators have made every effort to make the email/letters look like a real human actually wrote them – because real live humans did! So, the emails/letters come complete with intentional inconsistencies from one to another in letter layouts, wording, fonts, formats and even punctuation. So, if something doesn’t look quite right, it’s most likely because it’s intended to look that way! If, however, you notice any factual, spelling, syntax and/or grammatical errors, please let us know as soon as possible by sending us an email to info@NoGonola.ca We want you to look good and feel good about putting your electronic and/or personal signature to whatever you are submitting. This feedback is ESSENTIAL in communicating the strength of our opposition.
Most importantly…THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THIS CAMPAIGN! There is strength in numbers and we are better together.
